Chandan Yatra starting on 13th May

E-mail Print

On the divine occasion of CHANDAN YATRA, purify yourself by grinding Chandan (sandalwood)-which will be applied on Lord Krishna's body from 13th May'13 for next 21 days.

Once Lord Gopalji apperared in a dream to Madhavendra Puri (a prominent acharya in Brahma Madhava sampradaya) and told him "I am feeling very hot and thus please go the forest nearby Puri in Orrisa and bring sandalwood for me". Thereafter, Madhavendra Puri went to Puri and fetched sandalwood as per the instructions of Lord Gopal. On his way back, Gopalji apperared in a dream to him and told him "There is no difference between me and Sri Gopinath. So apply chandan to Sri Gopinath whose temple is in Remuna". Thus, Madhavendra Puri applied the sandalwood he brought for Gopal to Lord Gopinath of Remuna.

So like that there are many pastimes of Lord in this regard. All over ISKCON and other temples, Chandan Yatra will be celebrated with great pomp for complete 21 days.

On the following dates chandan will be applied fully on the entire transcendental body of the Deities:-
13 May-- Starting day (Akshya Tritya)
24 May-- Narshimha Caturdashi
(Darshan will open at 9AM on the above dates)

Every one is cordially invited to grind sandalwood to make sandalwood paste. Lord will accept the service when same paste would be applied on the Lord's transcendental body. You can also donate sandalwood for this wonderful occasion and thus be blessed by serving Sri Sri Radha Radhika Raman- Krishna Balarama.
